Series Finale Review

A few observations from a loyal fan.

Stop kidding yourself, Marlo is probably dead or in jail, right now. For everyone that has missed Stringer and Avon, I ask why? You’ve had the perfect cross between the two for the whole season. He’s Stringer in that he’s a shrewd businessman (i.e. turning a connect he just acquired for $100k into $10 million on some Bob Johnson shit). Granted his hand was forced, but he knew without Prop Joe, the streets had little choice but to take whatever deal he offered. But what Joe said about him being an animal along with the lecture he gave Chris about his name being important to him, ALL coupled with his actions on that street corner showed he was really more Avon than Stringer. Even before he left that meeting he was walking around uncomfortable looking at people like he was scoping the corner or his new cell block. Then he leaves the next chapter of his life to get stabbed and stand on a fucking block. Go to hell with nostalgia or “one last taste.” He’s an animal and that’s his jungle.
Dukie being reduced to a dope fiend was the second saddest storyline of the five seasons, next to Wallace getting killed. He went from the being the smartest kid with the most promise to living the life of a drug addict shacked up with a gang of circus misfits. Terrible, but his life compared to Namond perfectly illustrates the overwhelming theme of this show, which I’ll talk about with my wrap-up.
Fuckin Herc, man. He basically set the whole thing up, then unraveled it like that sweater the news dude spoke of. What a snake. No wonder E hated him and Vince sent him back to Queens, the fucker.
I won’t lie. I definitely thought about Omar’s faggotry when Michael robbed the rim shop, but it really doesn’t have anything to do with anything. Ok, his backup wasn’t exactly Rampage Jackson, but how does that make Michael gay? And if that’s the criteria then I guess Marlo is gay too because his head henchbitch was a dyke, right? Seriously, the boy was just bangin a chick in his room and now he’s gay because his muscle is hi-yella. Good grief.
The Baltimore Sun angle was great. It really showed how EVERYTHING in a city can be dirty, yet function perfectly behind a double standard. The reporter that wrote the story on Bubs showed hope though. How they pulled that off without making it look corny was masterful.
Kima is a bitch. Justify her actions however you life, but she snitched on people that cried for her and visited her ass in the hospital when she got fired up. If I was Lester, I would have beaten her to death with that bottle of whisky. Aint like he had a chance to smash. She probably liked his girlfriend…I know I do.
Sergeant Landsman looks like an obese John Cena.
Lt. Daniels and his moral fiasco was way too melodramatic. So, the government just became a cesspool and now you’re fed up? Get over it and get your rank and pay up, dickhead. You can’t be serious in trying to sell me a cop that far along in his career in a piece of shit city (no offense, Baltimore folks) just getting a fresh set of morals. Also, the McNulty rant/confession with the reporter was a bit on the extra side too.
Right before he got owned, Meth owned that screen. Powerful.
Get the fuck outta here with all this “Kenard is gonna be the next Chris or Weebay” shit (classic shot between those two, by the way). He’s small and he has a big ass mouth. He’s gonna get his ass kicked--often. Randy is probably pushing him down a flight of stairs in juvey, right now. Without muscle, bitch ass Dukie was giving him [Fat] THE BEATS [/Joe].
Council President Nerese Campbell could make a fortune playing poker. Her game face is most splendiferous. She gets what she wants. Too bad I didn’t get what I wanted; a glimpse of her fuck face. I’ve been curious all season as to whether she has large or small areo’s. Oh well, Kima’s dyke scene goes home with the crown.

WRAP UP

I watched the first two season’s of The Wire a little differently than most. I saw them via the Director’s cut and every chance they had, the writers emphasized the point that this show is above all about the story, not the characters. It’s why Stringer got his ass lit up like a Hanukkah candle, why Omar got debacled by a Gary Coleman and why the brightest kid throughout the five year run of television’s most honest and captivating show was last shown shooting up. That’s life.
