Album Review Nelly
Furtado - Loose Yeah, so, the vibe is cool and our drinks arrive at the table when this song comes on and all of Katie’s Friends start whilin’ out like Hov’s verse from the Hustlin’ remix just dropped. They got up and started dancin’ around the table and at first, I was gonna sit there and finish my Cosmo, but I just couldn’t front, the beat and the female singing, "Promiscuous boy, you already know, that I’m all yours, what you waiting for?” was something I was totally feeling. So, I got up and started two stepping in my Cavalli’s like it was ’97 and I was at Cheetah’s. I meant to ask Katie who sang that song, but by the grace of God, when my tipsy ass got home, I turned on MTV to catch The Hills (doesn’t Lauren remind you of Marsha Brady?) and I see the video for that Promiscuous song and I find out it’s Nelly Furtado and that Timbaland did the beat. I thought it sounded familiar. Of course I went out and bought the album the next day and I’ve been listening to it ever since. I just love the up-tempo and naughty feel of Nelly’s new CD, Loose. Afraid, the set’s opening track reverberates much like Promiscuous, but with a slightly different tone, as Nelly seriously yet still seductively raps, “All you need is some self reliance, because this world is gonna always try us.” (Am I trippin or does she have a little flow?) As a matter of fact, most of the songs on Loose are sultry features that one way or another explore today’s uninhibited women that want to have fun just like the guys. I know I do. Loose isn’t exactly a party record though. I mean don’t get me wrong, Timbaland blesses the record like I haven’t heard him do since Aaliyah was alive, but Furtado holds up her end by showing her sensitive and spiritual side on songs like What I Wanted and In God’s Hands. She also embraces her Latin heritage on the melodic No Hay Igual and Te Busque. Oh my God, your girl simply can’t stop playing this album. I even put a couple of my girlfriends onto it, just by bumping it in my car on the way to the club, this past weekend. Would you believe Kim actually tried to finagle it out of my CD changer? I knew that heifer was up to something when she asked me to pop the trunk. She didn’t even bring a damn jacket. Well, the club was wack anyway; same ‘ole music and tired ass broke dudes. I‘m going out with Katie and her friends again, next week. I can’t wait.
