Album Review Amerie - Because I Love You Anyway, as I was saying, the queen of spring and summer feel good songs has really brought the early Madonna out of herself with her new album, Because I Love You. It’s not as transparent as I’m making it sound, but after you get to a certain point on the CD, the sound of a certain bleach blond diva is all but calling your name. Still present, when you cue up Because, is the funky Washington, DC influenced percussion of Rich Harrison’s production. The puppy love bridge’s and chorus’ are also in attendance, as are the borderline sappy tales of broken hearts. But, as soon as Crush hits, you feel like it’s summer ’83 and you’re watching the Dominican kids on your block break-dancing. Crazy Wonderful provides more of that same feeling with Amerie belting out bold declarations like, “You’re so sexy, I can’t help myself.” Don’t be so subtle, girl, tell him what you really want! I love it. I also love the 80’s revolution continuing right through my two favorite songs on the CD, That’s What U R and Somebody Up There (Must love me), which details Amerie’s appreciation to the man upstairs for the guy who loves her down here---and shows it by keeping her in those adorable shoes all the damn time. Have you paid attention to girlfriend’s shoe game for the past five years? She’s got the R&B game on lock, you hear me? I hope she sells more albums this time out. Whatever she does, I bet she could’ve upped her sales even more had she included the chance for a free shoe shopping spree with the purchase of the record. Just a thought. Here’s another, why is 1 Thing on this CD? Even Madonna's shoddy ass would have had the tact to save that for her greatest hits collection.
