If you’ve seen the previews then you know Vantage Point is the interpretation of an assassination attempt from the perspective of about eight different people, including a top Presidential Secret Serviceman, Thomas Barnes, played by the jittery Dennis Quaid. As soon as the film begins, the President gets shot and my baby girl, Zoe Saldana gets blown the fuck up. Damn! And that’s only the beginning of the rapid-fiya action. While immensely entertaining, the whole process of being drawn back to the origin of the madness makes you feel kinda like bait on a fishing rod. Barnes, who just months ago took a bullet for the President, is now back on his detail and noid as a muhfucka. His paranoia is supposed to make him a pawn in this grand scheme of terrorism before a massive crowd in Spain. Well, obviously them ‘rrists didn’t see Quaid control that crowd in Great Balls of Fire! *pause* Quaid gets his Jack Bauer on and ultimately figures out most of what’s going on, but not before a plethora of people and their motives, excuses, and circumstances are played out in front of us. Lakers fans will be happy to see LA’s most popular Spaniard, Pau Gasol make his big screen debut as local Spanish cop, Enrique. If you’re wondering, it’s not much of a stretch; I mean, he polices NBA lanes, he polices streets in Spain. Joining Pau in this all-star cast is the old brawd from the Aliens quadrilogy, Jack from Lost, Charles Jefferson from Fast Times at Ridgemont and William Hurt. Each plays an integral part in unraveling them ‘rrists’ diabolical plot. I really can’t say enough about this movie. It’s not only a good theater experience, but I’m gonna go ahead and recommend it as a DVD purchase, as well. Not since Traffic have I seen a movie with so many stories that intertwine so perfectly to bang out a great ending. Go watch, and then cop in a few months. Just don’t invite an impatient-ignant ass friend over when you pop the Blu-ray in.
