No bullshit. This dude goes to jail and is willing to be labeled a traitor (hence the title) by everyone from his country to his brothers in faith, and even his woman in order to carry out his mission in a righteous manner. Before you three assclowns think about getting mad because I gave the plot away, don’t. In case you didn’t get it after reading the big ass sign over the theater door that reads “Traitor,” it’s perfectly spelled out for you in the first five minutes of the film. It’s understood what his mission is and what he has to be willing to do to carry it out. Sadly, this served as the downfall for the story. I get that this was going to be a flick about espionage, double crossing and that ‘rrism, but I didn’t like it laid out so clear for me. Damn, let a brother wonder. The biggest scare you ever have for Samir (Cheadle) in his quest to delve deeper in the foxhole of radical jihad, was if the Muslims were catching on to him or not. But even that wasn’t much of a worry because he was just so much damn smarter than them. All they wanted to do was blow Americans up and as long as he helped construct bombs and mention Allah every so often, they were good. Guy Pierce and Neal McDonough play the lost US officials on Samir’s trail. McDonough specifically has really taken to playing the villain wonderfully ever since The Rock kicked his ass in Walking Tall. Even when he’s technically the good guy, like here, them ice cold blue eyes transform him into a quality asshole as soon as that camera starts rolling. He should work out great as M. Bison in the next Street Fighter. Anyway, I know there have been ‘lil comparisons between Traitor and the Bourne series. I just want to give you my blessings to shoot the next person who makes them. While there is room for a sequel here, a whole lot of improvements need to be made to this storyline before it gets such a holy billing.
