Two for One Hip-Hop Roundup Consequence – Don't Quit Your Day Job
Fiya 3 on the CD: Job Song, The Good, The Bad, The Ugly f/ 'Ye, Uncle Raheem And it’s just as entertaining too. From taking the newfound duckets earned from his gig and courting a Pretty Lil Sexy Mama to finding those same duckets missing after his uncle Raheem gets out of jail, only to be sent back in, you can see the influence Consequence received from his short stint with cousin Q-Tip in A Tribe Called Quest’s painful last run. If ever there was an album that should be made into a low budget accompanying DVD, this is it. Now, I know what everyone who’s ever heard Consequence rhyme is waiting for me to address, yes, his flow. It seems the entire Earth’s population thinks Cons only has one flow. It’s probably because he does, but you know what? With the right beats to rhyme over, he easily gets away with it. Know something else? He got 12 of them shits on this album. Go buy it. Rich Boy – Rich Boy
Fiya 3 on the CD: Throw Some D’s, Hustla Ball, Get To Poppin I dunno, maybe it’s the lack of adlibs, or maybe the absence of good punch lines, or perhaps… Ah fuck it, I can’t do this. It’s because I can’t understand a word this nigga is saying. When T.I. is mad, that’s about my cut off point with understanding somebody past that Mason Dixon that’s not even trying to help me understand them. I kicked it with my cousin Tee from down in one of those southern states with big bugs, not too long ago, and I swear I only made out five words he said my whole stay. Luckily, the words were “hot-wings,” “Henny” and “She a freak.” Cousin Tee, that’s my dog. Rich Boy is probably cool like cousin Tee, but I’d never know from having a conversation with him. “Plealawdfogiymefodiicrackseylin.” Dunno about you, but the only thing I made out here was crack (of course), and that took me 14 minutes to decode. I'm through. Let me tell you something I did understand on this record; The jury is still out on Polow Da Don. He never matches the Fiya he lit on Throw Some D’s and furthermore, some guy named Brian Kidd produces two tracks that overshadow damn near every Polow song on the album, save D’s. And since we're on the subject of overshadowing, please let this be the last time I have to hear Andre 3000 then Jim Jones on the same song (D’s remix also featuring Nelly, Murphy Lee and The Game). It’s like sitting down in front of a perfectly soft bowl of ice cream only to find a fucking hive of insects placed right next to it, talkin’ bout “Throw some bee’s on that bitch.” See how corny that was? Well, this album is worse. *P.S.
